A tequila-based cocktail tradition that never does without the obligatory salt rim. For two reasons – because the salt in our margarita gives it not only a distinctive look but also an unmistakable taste component that goes wonderfully with lime, orange, and tequila.

Ingredients:

  • 4th Piece of lime, including the juice
  • 1 Pinch of acceptable sea salt
  • 20th cl tequila
  • 12th cl orange liqueur
  • 6th Piece of ice cube
  • some agave syrup

UTILS

Margarita or martini glasses, shaker, strainer

Preparation

  1. Halve the lime and score with a sharp knife. Place the lime with the cut gap on the edge of the glass and carefully moisten all around. Sprinkle salt on a plate and press the moistened rim of the margarita glasses into it.
  2. Squeeze out the juice of all the limes and place in a shaker along with the tequila, the orange liqueur and ice cubes. Add a dash of agave syrup if you like. Shake vigorously for approx. 5-10 seconds. Strain the drink evenly into the glasses with the help of a strainer.
  3. Perfume margaritas with a lime zest and serve garnished with a lime wedge.

Margarita recipe – sweet, sour, fresh cocktail

It almost became a very traditional sour. But the inventors of the margarita replaced the usual sugar syrup with the orange liqueur Triple Sec and thus gave the basic formula a twist. Who exactly is responsible for the original margarita cocktail recipe, on the other hand, is less clear. Some give the idea to Carlos Herrera, a bartender from Tijuana. Others claim that the margarita goes back to the drink “Margarita Daisy ”, which appeared in the USA as early as 1936.

And then there is Club Kentucky in Ciudad Juarez, which claims to have invented the tequila cocktail. It is particularly popular because of its mix of salty flavors and the slightly sour freshness of the lime and the orange liqueur Triple Sec and the sweetness of the agave syrup. In addition, there is the earthy agave taste of the tequila. The margarita ingredients result in a refreshing, aromatic and at the same time somewhat bitter cocktail. It is important that you only use tequila for our margarita drink, which is made from 100 percent blue Weber agave. It should also be unripe – in other words: blanco or white. This is how you get the pure aroma, which is also essential for our margarita recipe.

The right glasses and the benefits of the salt rim

Traditional margarita glasses are relatively large. You can therefore use a martini glass for our recipe. It is decorated one way or another with the obligatory salt rim. On the one hand, this gives the cocktail its characteristic appearance, on the other hand, it provides a wonderful contrast to the sweetish acidity of the drink. However, do not use any table salt. The best margarita salt is coarse crystals from the sea.

They are also recommended for frozen margaritas, which, unlike the original, contain crushed ice – and thus resemble a slushy. Perfect for the summer! Then be sure to try our strawberry margarita. It is also made with orange liqueur and tequila, two alcoholic beverages.

Accordingly, every margarita has a certain alcohol content that should not be underestimated. If you are planning a cocktail evening under the sign of Mexico’s famous agave brandy, try our instructions for Tequila Sunrise in addition to our margarita recipe.
