Heart diseases are caused by the higher levels of cholesterol in your blood. Saturated fats  (also known as ‘bad fats’) are the reason for increased LDL (‘bad’) cholesterol. Poor quality or excess use of butter, coconut oil, fat meat oils, and processed foods are the big sources of bad fats. Following are the recipes lower in saturated fat and sodium that can savor a meal. Also, they are heart-healthy recipes.  

Baked Chickpea Chicken

Ingredients

  • 450g of can chickpeas
  • 460g of bag mini sweet peppers
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Kosher salt 
  • Black pepper
  • 2 tbsp harissa sauce
  • 4 small chicken legs 
  • Chopped cilantro for topping

Cooking Method

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Take a big-sized rimmed baking sheet, roll chickpeas and peppers, add 1 Tbsp oil and ¼ tsp each salt and pepper, and toss. 
  2. Take a small bowl, add harissa and 1 Tbsp oil and whisk them well. Coat the chicken with this mixture. Then toss with chickpeas and peppers and put into the preheated oven, roast until chicken turn golden brown and baked through, 20 to 25 minutes. 
  3. Now toss it with cilantro and serve. Tada! Your delicious baked chickpea chicken is ready to eat.

Mutton Kebabs

It has less saturated fats and is good for your health if cooked with less oil and spices.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. boneless, skinless mutton, finely cut into small pieces
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 scallions, finely chopped
  • 1/4 c. fresh parsley leaves
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • Kosher salt and pepper

Cooking Method

  1. Heat grill to medium to high flame. Place mutton in a large bowl. Then finely grate the zest of the lemon over the chicken. 
  2. Add scallions, parsley, 2 Tbsp oil, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp pepper, and toss them to combine well. Add lemon juice over it and toss them again.
  3. Choose your favorite veggie combo, take a separate bowl, toss vegetables with remaining oil and add 1/4 tsp each salt and pepper.
  4. Thread mutton pieces and veggies onto skewers. Grill them meanwhile, keep turning them occasionally until it is just cooked through about 8 to 10 minutes.
